Abu Bakr Zoud – The Last Thing To Say & Do Before Sleep
AI: Summary ©
The "hastag" in Islam is essential, as it allows individuals to make offensive statements before sleep and boost their health. The importance of commitment to Islam is emphasized, including the belief that everything is achieved through actions of others. The "hastag" is also discussed, including the need for guidance and protection from evil events and the importance of not mentioning any negative things. The "we" sign is used to indicate a person is the person being asked for, and individuals are urged to learn the meaning of "has" in the Bible and not say "has" in their daily life.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم الحمد لله رب العالمين
والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى آله وصحبه
أجمعين All praise and thanks belongs to Allah
سبحانه وتعالى And may the peace and blessing
of Allah be upon his servant and final
messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم As to
what follows respected brothers and sisters in Islam
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته In today's lesson,
I wanted to share with you a powerful
Sunnah of the messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم
something that he صلى الله عليه وسلم would
say and do just before he slept and
He taught his companions and the ummah as
an extension To make these the last actions
and the last words they say before they
sleep Al-Bara'a Ibn Aazib رضي الله
عنه narrated this powerful Sunnah of the messenger
صلى الله عليه وسلم Al-Bara'a Ibn
Aazib رضي الله عنه he said that the
This is the hadith that
Al-Bara'a Ibn Aazib رضي الله عنه
narrated and it is found in صحيح البخاري
ومسلم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم first and
foremost.
He said إذا أتيت مضجعك He said whenever
You come to sleep أتيت مضجعك meaning whenever
you want to sleep ومضجعك is the name
that is given to the bed So as
you're about to go to sleep, he said
to him number one توضأ وضوءك للصلاة perform
وضوء As you would for the prayer, so
that's the first Sunnah make a وضوء with
all its Conditions and obligations and the Sunnah
as well.
And of course, we all know how to
make وضوء so make the Sunnah وضوء the
perfect وضوء just like you would make وضوء
for the prayer and This my brothers and
sisters in Islam would also include the woman
that is upon her periods We all know
that a woman that is menstruating.
She does not pray the prayers But can
she make وضوء?
Can a woman who menstruates make وضوء?
Yes, she can make وضوء in order and
in hope of achieving the reward of this
prophetic Sunnah So a woman may make a
menstruating woman may also make وضوء Just before
she sleeps to attain and to earn the
reward that is going to be mentioned For
this Sunnah that is done just before a
person sleeps.
So that's the first thing in the peace
on the law who alihu assalam said make
وضوء Then he said ثم الطجع على شقك
الأيمن He said then lie down on your
right side.
So we make وضوء a perfect وضوء Then
go to your bed and Lay down on
your right side So for me, this is
my right side lay down having your head
on And your side the right side onto
the bed And so your left side is
up towards the towards the sky towards the
ceiling Afterwards once you're in that position and
Nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam said Talbara Ibn Azim
teaching us all to make this dhikr and
He sallallahu alayhi wasallam Specifically said وَجْعَلْهُنَّ آخِرَ
مَا تَتَكَلَّمُ بِهِ He said let these words
be the last thing you say before sleeping
So we learn from this that you want
these to be the absolute last words after
that don't say anything So if a person
wants to talk to someone Perhaps a wife
is talking to her husband or the husband's
talking to the wife or there are brothers
and sisters sleeping in the room They're talking
to each other Talking to your siblings Do
all that finish once you're all done.
Make sure this dhikr is the absolute last
thing and after it You don't want to
say anything What we say is and I'm
going to explain it as well as we
move along this dhikr Say اللهم أسلمت نفسي
إليك Oh Allah, I submit my soul unto
you This means Oh Allah, I submit to
your commands I do what you're obligated upon
me and I keep away from for what
you forbid upon me and this is incredibly
Important for the believer to refresh this type
of commitment to Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala Allah
subhanahu wa'ta'ala He says وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ دِينًا
مِّمَّنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجَهُوا لِلَّهِ No one is better
in faith than the one who submits himself
to Allah عز و جل So that's the
first of what you say just before you're
sleeping اللهم أسلمت نفسي إليك I submit myself
to you Meaning I submit to all your
commands Everything you've commanded me to do I
will do and everything you forbade me from
I will keep away from it Subhanallah, and
why does the human being submit to the
commandments of Allah?
Why do we submit to Allah عز و
جل?
because He knows what's best for us and
the human being always wants the best of
everything so if you want the best of
this life and the best of the life
in the grave and The best of the
afterlife then submit yourself to Allah عز و
جل And what does it mean by submitting
yourself to Allah meaning every limb and every
part of your body submits to Allah your
tongue So you speak what pleases Allah your
ease so you hear what pleases Allah Your
eyes so you only see that which Allah
عز و جل is pleased with your limbs
Your limbs you move them in that which
Allah عز و جل is pleased with such
as the prayer subhanallah that's why the prayer
was the greatest of the deeds because your
entire body and All your bones and all
your joints and all the limbs are moving
in the worship of Allah عز و جل
So we say اللهم أسلمت نفسي إليك and
feel this as you sleep That all of
you have submitted to Allah عز و جل
Then we say وفوطت أمري إليك وفوطت أمري
إليك you say and oh Allah I have
entrusted my affairs onto you Meaning I rely
upon you in all my affairs I rely
upon you in my health in my wealth
in my work in my provision That you
fix my relationships Everything in life you rely
upon Allah عز و جل so as you're
sleeping think of the things that concern you
the most and Connected with these words فوطت
أمري إليك that you are Entrusting Allah in
all your affairs.
This is very empowering brothers and sisters in
Islam Subhanallah and this will bring you much
comfort as you sleep Imagine something bothering you
something concerning you and as you're sleeping You're
saying وفوطت أمري إليك I've entrusted you in
all my affairs Are you worried because of
your health وفوطت أمري إليك should put you
at ease and at comfort and it should
subside your Anxiety so that you're able to
sleep.
Well that night Whatever the case may be
وفوطت أمري إليك And that's how a person
earns a good sleep You know today the
they mentioned there are certain sounds you can
play certain tunes you can play and That
would ease you to sleep or read such
and such a book so it can ease
you to sleep Or put the sound of
the ocean the sound of the wave and
that will help break your anxiety Settle you
down and you're able to sleep.
Don't worry about these matters This ذكر وفوطت
أمري إليك Will help ease your situation your
anxiety and put you to sleep Allahu Akbar
and then afterwards we say ووجهت وجهي إليك
and Oh Allah I turn my face towards
you and This year as Al Qurtubi رحمه
الله said أخلصت في عبادتي I turn my
face to you meaning Oh Allah I declare
sincerity to you I turn my face towards
you so I didn't turn left and right
in my worship every worship We do we
are seeking Allah Azawajal's pleasure.
We want his reward We want his appreciation
his approval his acceptance and no one else
And how beautiful is this part of the
ذكر especially in this day and age that
we live in the day of age of
social Media in where people have lost their
sincerity due to spreading their deeds on social
media Subhanallah, it's like a person cannot do
a good deed except that he wants to
publicly announce it to everyone and that It
takes away from sincerity brothers and sisters in
Islam So it's good just before you sleep
renew this commitment and say ووجهت وجهي إليك
My Lord, I'm declaring sincerity to you every
deed I did during the day and the
night and I'll do tomorrow and whenever I
do I am sincere for you I don't
want anyone's appreciation or anyone's like or anyone's
share or anyone's comments.
I want your approval of it Subhanallah, and
then we say و ألجأت ظهري إليك and
I have committed my back to you Meaning
al ulama rahimahullah.
They say I've committed myself to you meaning
I rely on you in my matters so
that you help me With that which benefits
me Zahri, you see the word Zahri is
very interesting Zahri means the back of a
person Why was it mentioned in in this
hadith specifically because of Zahir The back whoever
leans on something then the thing you lean
on Gives you support and strength and it
assists you So, you know when there's a
that when there's a wall or like now
there's a chair.
I'm leaning my back on the chair and
That strengthens me and it assists me and
it helps me stay upright So when I
say ألجأت ظهري إليك I have committed my
back on to you Oh Allah That means
Oh Allah.
I'm relying on you that you assist me
and you help me and you strengthen me
In the affairs of my world and the
affairs of the afterlife subhanallah beautiful Part of
the hadith and such a beautiful word to
be used in this in this context now
So we're seeking Allah's help and we're seeking
his protection also seeking his protection as well
from anything that may harm us or cause
us distress whether it's internal evils such as
the whispering of the devil or external evils
such as harms and evils that are outside
of us such as magic in the evil
eye and the Devil's possession and so on
now, so this is what we say and
then at the end we say رغبة و
رهبة إليك meaning I've submitted to you and
I rely upon you and I seek your
help and assistance and I'm being sincere to
you رغبة Out of hope in you و
رهبة إليك and out of fear of you
So I'm doing all these acts of worship
and I'm declaring all these matters in Hope
that you give me reward and I attain
your mercy and I'm also Submitting to you
and relying upon you and seeking your help
and being sincere to you because I fee
your punishment and your displeasure Subhanallah, this is
the believer state when we worship Allah we
worship him because we love him We worship
him in hope of his reward and the
paradise and out of fee of his punishment
and his displeasure Then we say لا ملجأ
ولا منجأ منك إلا إليك Verily there is
no refuge or safe haven from you except
with you How beautiful is this look at
look at the need we have for Allah
as-sawajal Look at the need we have
we say verily there is no refuge There
is no protection brothers and sisters in Islam
if Allah's punishment was to come down There
is no escape from it except through him
subhanahu wa'ta'ala except through Allah That's why
Allah said فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ Rush and run
as fast as you can to Allah as
-sawajal الفِرَار is to run to someone that
can save you away from something that will
harm you Allahu Akbar and Allah as-sawajal
commands us to run towards him because he's
the only one can save us I want
to give you a small example imagine a
mother and her three-year-old child and
They were both at the supermarket and the
child did something Silly, let's say he threw
things off the off the aisle off the
shelf and the mother gets angry so the
mother Hits her child.
Let's say this happened and the child is
is is screaming and he's crying and Where
does he go?
He will run back to his mother Even
though she's the one who hit him Because
the child knows There is no one that
will show him mercy other than his mother
To Allah as-sawajal belongs the highest of
examples, but we are living on God's earth
We are living in Allah's property in his
kingdom So when we do something of sins
or evil deeds Which may earn us Allah's
displeasure and anger we have no escape from
this but to run back to Allah as
-sawajal and Seek his forgiveness and repent to
him subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
This is why this part of the dhikr
is is Unbelievably incredibly empowering for a person
and his faith la malja'a wa la
manja'a minka illa ilayk You're declaring and
saying I cannot run away from your punishment
my lord.
I cannot run away from your anger I
cannot run away from your displeasure and seek
protection To other than you I can only
run back to you you're the only one
that can have mercy upon me and forgive
my sins and Keep your punishment away from
me.
How powerful is this brothers and sisters in
Islam Allahu Akbar?
And then at the end of the dhikr
we say amantu bi kitabika allathee anzalt wa
bi nabiyyika allathee arsalt We say I believe
in your book which you have revealed and
in your Prophet whom you have sent This
is like ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa
ashhadu anna muhammadan rasool Allah And this should
be the last words you say before you
sleep.
How beautiful is this?
amantu I believe in the book that you
sent down I believe in the Quran and
it can also include the books that Allah
sent upon the previous prophets.
I believe in them all in every letter
in every commandment in every wisdom that is
found in these books wa bi nabiyyika allathee
arsalt and I believe in the messenger that
you sent to mankind muhammadun sallallahu alayhi wasallam
Allahu Akbar nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam Repeated this
dhikr to al-baraa ibn aazib Until he
memorized it and until he learnt it The
narration mentions that al-baraa ibn aazib when
he was repeating it to the messenger sallallahu
alayhi wasallam Trying to learn it at the
end.
He said amantu bi kitabika allathee anzalt wa
bi rasoolika allathee arsalt So nabi sallallahu alayhi
wasallam corrected him and said to him la
Don't say bi rasoolika say wa bi nabiyyika
allathee arsalt And that is because this dhikr
its words are taught to nabi sallallahu alayhi
wasallam They were taught to him in this
way So we're not able and allowed to
change anything or add anything to this dhikr
or even remove anything from this dhikr It
should be said like how we say an
ayah from the Quran Nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam
then he said fa in mitta min laylatika
fa anta alal fitra whoever Whoever makes wudu
sleeps on his right side and says this
dhikr before he sleeps Then he will sleep
that night and if he was to die
in his sleep, which may be a possibility
He will die upon al-fitra.
Allahu Akbar.
He will die upon the natural monotheism He
will die upon al-fitra, which is al
-islam The religion that Allah is pleased with
this is the only faith that Allah Azawajal
will accept from mankind on the Day of
Judgment and The one who dies upon al
-fitra enters the paradise Because the nabi sallallahu
alayhi wasallam says man kana akhiru kalamihi minad
dunya la ilaha illallah dakhalal jannah If a
person's last words in this dunya wa la
ilaha illallah, he enters the paradise and this
dhikr is la ilaha illallah and a lot
more is found in this dhikr of of
declaring worships to Allah Azawajal Subhanallah beautiful dhikr
When nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam, then he gave
the other possibility Let's say you did not
die that night and you woke up the
next morning He said wa in asbahta asabta
khaira and if you reach the morning you
would have struck goodness You would have earned
great reward in another region wa in asbahta
asabta khaira If a person was to wake
up the next morning, he would earn great
amount of goodness He'll have goodness in his
wealth in his health.
He'll have better decisions on that day subhanallah
and and and it'll be good the next
day will be good for him in terms
of his faith and He would have earned
great reward because you had applied a sunnah
of the messenger sallallahu alayhi wasallam and You
renewed your commitment upon an Islam with all
those words that you said before you slept
So brothers and sisters in Islam in conclusion,
there are three sunnah to do here before
you sleep number one Wubooq just like you
make wubooq for sleep And of course there
is a purpose for this because when you
make wubooq and you sleep you prepare yourself
for death for indeed if the body is
in a state of purity then the heart
is also in a state of purity and
The other purpose for wubooq is that it's
hoped that a person who sleeps upon wubooq
will see a good pleasing dream and The
third benefit or purpose of wubooq before sleep
is that a person will be protected from
the shaytan and his harms So that's the
first sunnah wubooq before to sleep before sleep
number two sleeping on your right side and
number three making this great dhikr and This
great dhikr is teaching us that we are
in desperate need of Allah Azawajal and remembering
him Even just before we sleep Allahu Akbar
and When you wake up the next day
Make a dhikr of waking up, which inshallah
ta'ala will go through At a later
time and then begin with brushing your teeth
with a siwak or a toothbrush This is
what Abed Umar radiallahu anhu narrated that the
messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would sleep and
besides his head was a siwak As soon
as he woke up he would use a
siwak So if you don't have the best
type of toothbrush a siwak which is from
the tree of al-arak then you may
move on to something else like a toothbrush
and Intend with your toothbrush as you brush
your tooth and your teeth that you are
implementing the sunnah of the messenger sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam We conclude with this we ask
Allah Azawajal to grant us the ability to
apply sunnat an-nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
in our life.
We ask Allah Azawajal to accept from us
to forgive our sins in our shortcomings wa
sallallahu wa sallam wa baraka ala nabiyyina muhammadin
wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'in wa
salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
